Col. John L. Funkhauser Usaf (Ret.) Obituary (1933

Col. John L. Funkhauser, USAF (Ret.) passed peacefully at his home in Rush, on Friday, January 26, 2024 at the age of 90. He was born on February 27, 1933. He is predeceased by his parents Howard H. Funkhauser and Beryle R. Funkhauser (Selby) He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Jan, and five children: Howard (Patty) Funkhauser, Christopher (Tammy) Funkhauser, Kathryn (Nelson) LeCours, Jennifer (Gary) Forrester, Kevin (Dianne) Beyea. He is also survived by his two sisters; Joyce Smetana, Catherine Hotchkiss (Arthur), 11 Grandchildren and 19 Great Grandchildren. Colonel Funkhauser attended the United States Naval Academy from 1953-1957. He then served in the United States Air Force from 1957-1981. After retiring from the Air Force, John went on to work for Information Associates from 1981-1983. He then went to work for Titan Systems from 1983-1986. John had his second retirement from Lockheed Martin Electronics & Missile Systems, where he worked from 1986-1999. John was an Eagle Scout and former Scout Master. He was a Past Commander of Stevens Connor American Legion Post 1151 in Rush. He also served on the U.S. Military Academy Selection Committee. John had traveled to all fifty states and had lived at more than forty addresses. In 1999, he and Jan retired to Rush, New York. A Celebration of Life Service, with a reception to follow, will be held on Saturday, February 24th at 11:00, at the Rush United Methodist Church, 6200 Rush-Lima Road (14543). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's name to a charity of choice.
