Scottsville-Passed away on November 19, 2024 at age 73. Douglas Joseph Allen Sr was born on February 12, 1951. Born to Gwenith and Joseph Allen Sr., Douglas was one of eight children raised by Gwen and Joe. Douglas was a son, a brother, a friend, a confidant, a co-worker, an uncle, a husband, a father, a G-Pa, a Vietnam Veteran Hero, and much more. Douglas was patient and kind, compassionate and cheerful, humorous and considerate, generous and spirited, forgiving, and brave. Douglas was happily retired and often enjoyed a good game of golf with some of his closest friends. Douglas was a caretaker and effortlessly tended to the needs of those around him. He was an optimist and focused on the positive. Although, Douglas was no stranger to obstacles and courageously overcame struggles and hardships. Douglas loved with everything in him and in return was loved by those around him. Douglas was not afraid to stand up for what he believed in and made no apologies for who he was. He was the kind of friend that could be depended upon and in return was blessed with friends who were the same. Douglas could be called upon day or night, rain or shine, it didn't matter, he would show up and do what needed to be done. Douglas was a true partner in every sense of the word and found the love of his life the day he met Linda. Linda brought out the best in Douglas and he brought out the best in her. Linda was the yin to Douglas' yang and she was also the peanut butter to Douglas' Jelly. He never faltered when the time came to drive to and from doctor appointments, for Linda or for their beloved dog Herbie. Nor did he mind shouldering the expense for the absolute and best care for Herbie. He recently sprung for Herbie to have eye surgery, just so he could have sight, even if only for a few weeks or a few days. The selflessness and down-to-earth decency that Douglas exuded, attracted others of the same caliber. In his younger day, Douglas was the kind of father who was not shy about getting down on the floor and playing with the kids. He was also known to enjoy the occasional roller coaster ride with his children and nieces and nephews. Douglas would also find solace, whenever possible, just casting out a line or two and making a day of it at Braddock's Bay or Buck Pond with the family, catching some bass or even just a little sunfish. Afterall, it wasn't about the size or kind of fish; it was about the quality time spent with loved ones. Douglas displayed unparalleled work ethic and was a dedicated provider and a committed family man. Douglas was fluent in sign language and occasionally played a pretty convincing Santa Claus for a good cause around the holidays. To say that Douglas will be missed is an understatement. To say that he left those that he touched with warm memories and wishing for more time with him is truer, although this is not goodbye, this is "see you later." It is the fond memories of Douglas and the good times that were shared with him that will live on in our hearts and that will get us through this difficult time. To know Douglas was a privilege. He will be remembered as charitable, easy going, unique, tolerant, calm, and an all-around good human being. We can now find comfort in knowing that Douglas is watching over and protecting us and the legacy that he leaves us with is that we will want to be better and do better and live better. We can honor Douglas by living our best lives, just as he did. Douglas is predeceased by his stepson, Daniel Saeva; parents Gwenith M. Allen and Joseph Allen Sr.; and siblings, Joseph Allen Jr, Brenda Allen, & Edward Allen. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda (Saeva) Allen; his children, Douglas Allen Jr., Corey Allen, and Sarah (Robert) Long; his uncle, Wayne (Elaine) Kent; siblings, Sandra (Anthony) Cocchiara, Michael Allen; and Daniel Allen; his grandchildren, Ryan Pfluke, Nathan Allen, & Aiden Long; and several nieces & nephews. Friends and family are invited to call on Sunday, November 24, from 1-4pm at J.H. Cameron Funeral Home, 26 Rochester St. Scottsville. His Funeral Mass will be held on Monday at 10am at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 99 Main St., Scottsville. Interment Holy Angels Cemetery, Scottsville.
