Allene P. Smith Obituary (1913

Allene P. Smith LeRoy--Allene P. (nee Sharp) Smith, age 100, died Monday, August 26, 2013, at the Genesee County Nursing Home, Batavia, N.Y. Allene was born March 31, 1913, in Dunkirk, N.Y., the daughter of the late Curtis M. and Letha (Dikeman) Sharp. Allene graduated from Le Roy High School in 1930 and from the Rochester Business Institute in 1931. She married her loving husband of 60 years, the late Howard I. Smith on May 2, 1936. Allene worked in the offices of several local businesses and agencies in her early married years as well as being a wonderful, dedicated homemaker. Allene was the oldest and longest-standing member of the LeRoy United Methodist Church, having been confirmed there on June 8, 1924. Her service in the church included being financial secretary, a member and leader of the Priscilla Circle, Secretary of the Administrative Council, a member of and officer in the United Methodist Women and its predecessor, the W.S.C.S. She also served several years as Lay member to Annual Conference. Allene was a Past Matron and 60 year plus member of Olive Branch Chapter #509, Order of the Eastern Star; And a 70 year plus member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, being a Past Regent of the former LeRoy Te-car-nu-wan-na Chapter, the former Deo-on-go-wa Chapter, and present member of the Mary Jemison Chapter. Allene is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Carol L. and The Rev. David G.M. Weidman; Her brother, Alden Sharp, three nieces, Phyllis (David) Anderson, Ellen (James) Barlow, and Margaret Sharp; One nephew, Robert (Margaret) Lamb; several great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews; and cousins, Richard Dikeman, Elinor Gabbey,Leslie Morrison, Daniel (Sharon) Morrison. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased in death by Mary (Darrow) Sharp, sister-in-law; Daniel (Arlette Smith) Lamb, brother and sister-in-law. Carol and David are looking forward to receiving family and friends at the LeRoy United Methodist Church, 10 Trigon Park. LeRoy, N.Y., on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013. Visitation will begin in the church Great Room at 10:00A.M. There will be brief services in Allene's memory and honor by the Eastern Star and the DAR during visitation. The service of Death and Resurrection will be at 11:30 A.M. All are welcome to share in a meal at the church immediately following.
