Obituary for Dorothea J. "Dottie" Pompa (Robinson)

Dorothea J. "Dottie" Pompa
(Robinson)

SCOTTSVILLE - November 19, 2019 at age 75. Dottie was born in Batavia, NY on September 2, 1944 to the late Shirley (Passmore) and Ralph Robinson. She was predeceased by her brother, Douglas R. Robinson and many aunts and uncles.

She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Robert J. “Bob” Pompa. They were married on May 18, 1974. She is also survived by her daughter, Lauren (Christopher) Steimer; granddaughters, Emilia Reagan and Sydney Madelyn Steimer; aunt, Beverly (John) Murnan; many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Dottie was a graduate of LeRoy Central School (1962), earned a B.A. in Anthropology from Syracuse University (1966) and a Masters in Library Science from SUNY Geneseo (1970). Starting her career at the Henrietta Public Library, Dottie went on to be the Director of the Chili Public Library for more than 25 years. During her tenure, the circulation tripled and Dottie was instrumental in getting the current Chili Library built before her retirement in 1999.

Post retirement Dottie volunteered at the Scottsville Free Library and was a member of the Wheatland Seniors Club. Dottie passionately loved her grandchildren; avidly enjoyed her crossword puzzles, was fiercely challenging at Jeopardy and was notably a dark chocolate connoisseur. Most importantly, she was an amazing mother, grandmother and wife. A Librarian until the end, she still made sure her last library book was returned on time. We will forever miss her laugh, smile and loving eyes; she was truly one of a kind.

Monday, November 25, 2019 at 10 AM her Funeral Mass will be held at St. Martin de Porres St. Mary’s Church, Scottsville. Interment, Holy Angels Cemetery, Scottsville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Scottsville Free Library, 28 Main St., Scottsville, NY 14546. T
