Obituary for James E. Kanaley
Conesus Lake-With heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of James E. Kanaley, loving husband, beloved father, proud grandfather, dear brother and friend on Wednesday, July 10th at the age of 77. Jim was born in LeRoy, NY, a Jersey Side boy, on November 10, 1941 to James E. Kanaley, Sr. and Evelyn (Donnelly).
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda (Lambein); two children, Michael (Kelly) of Fairport, NY and Aimee (Rich) of Chicago, IL; four grandchildren, Zachary, Mackay, Jackson and Benjamin, who endearingly referred to him as Papa; and brothers, Tim (Linda) of Greenville, SC, Terry (Donna) of LeRoy, NY and Barry of Greenville, SC.; and sister-in-law, Kay (Michael) Miggins and brother-in-law, Howard Lambein and their extended families and many special friends.
Jim attended St. Peter Holy Family School and graduated from LeRoy High School in 1961. He attended University of Maryland Medical School where he studied to be an X-Ray Technician. He worked in various local hospitals in Western NY, joined the Army Reserves in the medical department in 1963 and was hired by Stromberg Carlson (General Dynamics) in 1965 to work in their medical department while attending Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) night school to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Human Relations. Jim was also a very active volunteer fireman for Stafford Fire Department and a member of the Northwoods Sportsman’s Club.
The travel adventures began for Jim and family in 1972 when Stromberg transferred him to Orlando, FL to be Human Relations Director. After four years in Orlando, General Dynamics transferred him to Wickford, RI to the Electric Boat Division. After three years, from Electric Boat back to General Dynamics for a short stint in San Diego, CA.
In 1978, Jim’s career brought him and his family full circle back to Rochester to begin a long and successful career at Bausch & Lomb. For the next 20 years Jim was a successful, well-liked and respected executive with the company. He built the Personal Products Division and ran many other divisions within the company when called upon and helped Bausch & Lomb become a major corporation throughout the US. He loved the company and the people who worked for him.
Jim had always planned on retiring at a young age. At 58, he and Linda spent winters in Naples, FL where he enjoyed fishing on his boat in the Gulf and summers were spent on Conesus Lake with family and friends. Jim was an avid outdoorsman and traveled to Alaska over a dozen times to fish and enjoy the scenery. He will always be remembered for his love of family, kindness, honesty, integrity and a fun-loving spirit. A good life-----a happy life!
Friends and Family are invited to Jim’s Funeral Mass. Which will be held 11 AM on Saturday August 10, 2019 at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Peter’s Church, 44 Lake St., LeRoy. NY 14482 Interment St. Francis Cemetery, LeRoy.
