Obituary for George E. Moltrup

George E. Moltrup
LeRoy/Lancaster
Moltrup, George E. Jr.
On January 30, 2016 at age 88 at the NYS Veterans Home in Batavia. Predeceased by his wife, Evelyn, daughter, Joyce Czapla, son, Roger, Moltrup, brothers, Earl, Donald Moltrup and sisters, Etta Schmit and Doris Webb. He is survived by his children, Bonnie (William) Measel, Marvin (Debra) Moltrup, Robert (Susan) Moltrup, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Violet Brasmeister, several nieces and nephews.

George served in the US Navy during WWII and was on a gun boat at the end of the war. He was a jack of all trades. He knew something about almost everything. George could take a piece of junk and make it into something useful. He cared for his wife, Evelyn for 22 years after she had a stroke at the age of 52. They eventually moved to Florida from Lancaster so he could carte for her away from the cold and snow. He didn’t let pushing her in a wheelchair get in their way. He cared for her until her death in 2001.

When he spent his summers in LeRoy, George loved to attend to his huge garden. He always shared the vegetables with family and friends. His son and daughter-in-law moved George back to LeRoy in December 2010 where he lived with them for two years. He loved playing euchre and would have played every day if he could. He liked to work with wood and made euchre score boards which he shared with anyone who wanted one. His son, Marv would load George into the sidecar and ride to Batavia where they played euchre every week at the senior center.

George moved to assisted living for two years where he enjoyed playing cards and Bingo. Last March he moved to a nursing home when pneumonia prevented him from moving back to assisted living. In September he was moved to the NYS Veterans Home where he lived until his death. Although he had Alzheimer’s disease, he had a huge sense of humor which didn’t fade with time. Although his many caregivers and nurses were the brunt of his jokes and tricks, they all loved him!

Friends may call Friday, 4-7 PM at the Cameron Brady & Steuber Funeral Home, 111 Wolcott Street, LeRoy where his service will follow calling hours at 7 PM. A private interment will be held at St. Francis Cemetery, LeRoy. Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
